Court Compass is operated by John Junk LL.M, trading as Court Compass. References to "we", "us" and "our" in this policy refer to Court Compass. Our contact email is support@courtcompass.co.uk.
We are the data controller for personal information collected through this website and through our booking system.
Booking a session
When you book a session through this website, Calendly (our booking platform) collects your name, your email address, your phone number if provided, your answers to any pre-booking questions, and payment information which is processed directly by Stripe or PayPal and not stored by us.
Legal Letter Translator
When you use the Legal Letter Translator tool on this website, we collect your email address to verify your identity before delivering your translation. The free tool is provided in exchange for joining our email list: your email is added to our mailing list via MailerLite, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. The description of your letter is sent to an AI service to generate the plain-English explanation. The explanation is held securely for up to 24 hours while you confirm your email address, then discarded. We do not link your description to your name or retain it in any client records.
Email correspondence
If you contact us by email, we collect the information you include in that message.
Cookies and tracking
We use essential cookies that are necessary for the website to function, including remembering your cookie choice. These do not require consent.
With your consent, we also use analytics and advertising cookies, including the Meta (Facebook) pixel, to measure the performance of our advertising and understand how visitors use the site. These cookies are only set after you accept them using the cookie banner shown when you first visit. You can decline them, and the site works fully either way. If you accept and later change your mind, clear this site's cookies in your browser to be asked again.
The Calendly booking widget sets its own cookies when you use it to book a session; these are governed by Calendly's own privacy policy. Payment is processed by Stripe or PayPal through Calendly, and their cookies are governed by their own policies.
We use your personal information to confirm and deliver your booking, prepare for and conduct your session, send you relevant information about your case or upcoming sessions, deliver the Legal Letter Translator service, send you updates and information about Court Compass where you have consented, respond to your enquiries, and meet our legal obligations.
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, we rely on the following legal bases:
We retain booking and session records for six years from the date of the session. This is consistent with the Limitation Act 1980 in England and Wales and equivalent provisions in Northern Ireland. Email correspondence is retained for the same period. Marketing email subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe. After any applicable period, we delete your information securely.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the following third-party service providers who process data on our behalf:
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate information, ask us to delete your information in certain circumstances, ask us to restrict how we use your information, receive your information in a portable format, and object to processing based on legitimate interests.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@courtcompass.co.uk. We will respond within one calendar month.
If you have subscribed to our mailing list and wish to unsubscribe, click the unsubscribe link in any email we send you.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection matters.
We would appreciate the opportunity to address your concern directly before you contact the ICO, so please contact us first.
We may update this policy from time to time. The version number and date at the top of this page show when it was last revised. Continued use of this website after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Court Compass is not a legal advice service. England, Wales and Northern Ireland only.
